A Turkish visa is one of the most common requests we receive at Royal Tourism, and the first question is always the same: “Which documents do I need?” The honest answer is that it depends on your nationality, your purpose of travel and where you apply. Still, the basics are fairly stable, and the most common mistakes are easy to avoid.
1. Choose the visa type before collecting documents
Your purpose of travel defines your file. The most common types are:
- Tourism: visiting Istanbul, Antalya or elsewhere.
- Business: meetings, trade fairs or partner visits, usually with an invitation from a Turkish company.
- Family visit: visiting relatives living in Turkey, usually with documents from the host.
- Medical: with an appointment or report from a hospital in Turkey.
2. Documents typically required
- A passport valid for long enough after your travel date, with blank pages.
- Recent photos in the required format.
- A bank statement or other proof that you can fund the trip.
- Proof of employment, study or a commercial register.
- A hotel booking and a provisional flight reservation.
- Travel health insurance.
3. The steps in short
- Define the visa type and where you will apply.
- Collect the documents on your own checklist.
- Complete the application and review the whole file.
- Submit and follow the application until the decision.
4. Common mistakes that delay or weaken applications
- Inconsistent information between the form and the documents, such as name spellings or dates.
- Weak or unclear proof of funds for the length of the trip.
- Photos in the wrong format, which get the file sent back.
- Applying too late, only days before travel.
- One missing document that a simple review would have caught.
Can anyone guarantee approval?
No. The final decision belongs to the authorities alone, and anyone promising guaranteed approval is not telling you the truth. What we can do is make sure your file is complete, organised and free of the mistakes we see most often, and that is what makes the difference.
How much time do I need?
It depends on the visa type, the season and where you apply. Our advice: start early, especially around holidays and peak seasons.
